The room was clean and well-equipped with a work desk, tea and coffee amenities, and a TV with satellite channels, with the hotel nestled amidst the forest and a golf course nearby.

The little hotel´s main rooms such a the library and the dining room are decorated as being a personal home. The breakfast is superb with home made fruit compot. The dinner is well prepared and the atmosphere is peaceful. The staff is friendly and professional. The Hortensia in the garden are beautiful. Besides that, it is close to a very good golf course - Santo da Serra with impressing views.

I would like to improve adding a fresh orange juice to the breakfast table.

We stayed at Portobay for a relaxing weekend getaway. The staff was friendly and helpful, offering lots of information on local activities. The room was clean and comfortable, with a great view of the golf course. The breakfast was delicious, with fresh fruit and plenty of choices. We enjoyed the swimming pool and sauna after a day of hiking.

Rooms are elegant with fridge, food is outstanding! As for me, the location is marvellous and beautiful, on the Sunday with the local market. All in all they offer excellent service. Pool area is great, enjoyed this place.

Beautiful, peaceful location and lovely garden. Spacious, clean rooms with comfortable beds. Friendly and professional staff. Great breakfast and excellent dinner options. Indoor pool facilities were appreciated. Close to the airport, making it easy to find after a late arrival.

Lack of transport information, resulting in expensive taxis. The village had limited amenities, so a car was necessary.

A good location for walking trips and easy access to Funchal but you need a car to enjoy this properly. A very nice hotel with very good staff who pay great attention to detail. We had a good sized quiet room with a good bathroom. The inside pool was great as it was comfortable to use after dark at the end of a days walking. Sauna very clean and hot. Breakfast was excellent.

Had standard room with a large comfortable bed, large bathroom plus an amazing view. Delicious breakfast with a great selection of delicacies and well-mannered staff.
